Drunk dialing... different than it used to be

So yesterday Gage went to a friend's house. He knew that we were planning on hanging out with the neighbors and he wanted to get out of here. I called him shortly after they got here to find out what his plans were for the rest of the night. He said he didn't know.

Now I am a responsible parent... a responsible parent that has a few drinks every now and then and being that I am a responsible parent I told him he had about a fifteen to twenty minute window in which driving would be possible. He decided that he was going to sleep over at his friend's house. Done and done. Let the hanging out commence.

After the evening was over and my "few" drinks had been consumed I realized that Gage has never slept over at this friend's before and for some reason I decided to call him and check up on him. I called... no answer. No biggie, I'll just try again in a few minutes.

Again... no answer.

For about an hour I called every ten minutes and left two messages because by now I'm convinced that he is doing something he's not supposed to be doing... like I did when I was his age!

Finally I log into Myspace to see if he was online. He wasn't but I saw in his top friends that the kid who's house he was at had a public profile. I went to his page and his status said "Chillin at the crib with Gage. Text me ###-####"

So what did I do? I texted him. (maybe he'll reconsider and make his profile private because damnit he's only 13 and you never know what kind of crazy person might be looking at your stuff... hello) My text said...

Tell Gage to call home right now

Literally 30 seconds later the phone rings and he's all worried something is wrong here. I don't think for one minute he thought I was mad. He said his phone was in his jeans pocket which were in his friend's bedroom... he had changed into his basketball shorts that had no pockets.

I'm all... "What are you doing?!"

"Um... watching a movie. What's wrong??"

"I've been calling you for an hour!"

"My phone is in my pocket in the other room, I have my shorts on. We're just watching a movie."

"Well... well... well... THAT'S NOT OKAY!!"

"It's not okay to watch a movie?"

"NO! It's not okay not to answer your phone!!"

"Mom, it's 11:30. People don't usually call me this late."

Way to burst my angry bubble.

Did I mention that Nick kept trying to get me to calm down and go to bed because he has total faith in the kid? Yeah... who knew?

Payback, not so fun.

Yeah... except the poor kid did nothing wrong and I yelled at him anyway. I think that may have put my "Mother of the Year" title in jeopardy!
